I'm sitting here listening to my mother and sisters complain about my dad's side of the family which they rarely have any interaction with anymore.  They're accusing the Grabers of thinking "if you don't dress like they do and live like they do, well then you're just not living right."

Irony is not dead.

I'm hoping I don't grow up to be old and cynical.  Not looking very good at this point...

As promised, I picked up the "Two Towers" extended edition and have been slowly digesting it while I've been on vacation.  While there were some obviously extraneous scenes, there were a few that did go a long way toward fleshing out the story.

I was particularly partial to the extended scene in Ithillien where Faramir takes the hobbits captive.  They extended the scene to give Faramir the dialogue that belongs to Sam in the books musing over the dead Southron that's been shot off the oliphaunt and fallen at their feet.  (Of course, this is partially personal preferrence since I wrote a poem called "The Southron" that fit in very well with that paragraph, somewhat unwittingly since I had forgotten about it when I was writing, but later found it again.  When I saw that they had added it into the extended edition, it was all I could do to stop myself from bouncing up and down gong "ee! ee!")

It's also interesting to note that PJ's Southrons are light-skinned.

"Give him some medicine, boys!"

Hey there,

Thanks for subscribing! =)   I love Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. Bought the extended DVD version, too, and definitely enjoy watching it!  Take care.

Actually, I think it's an extremely important quote.  We should never take war lightly, and that's one piece of LotR that diffuses critics who claim Tolkien was racist.

Ken,

I think I agree with you about LoTR.  Yes, generic topic to agree with, but I got the DVD for the extended addition when it first came out and ended up- unlike the first one- watching not only it all the way through with the extra footage, but also watching all the extra behind-the-scenes footage and documentary stuff too.  I found it all incredibly interesting, while there were some boring parts to it in the first extended addition.

I honestly did not catch the part you are talking of there, but I did love the footage they added involving Faramir.  Particularly the part where you got to see him back in Gondor.  I think that it redeemed their choices somewhat with his character.  I still disagree a little with their motives in changing his character some- they felt he was too pristine, that his character was stagnant and did not really develope or change much, but you know there actually can be good heros who don't neccessarily fall so easily.  But anyway, seeing that back-scene helps you to understand more of who he is and makes him a little less dark than it seemed in the normal version.

As for cynicism...  it can be a fun humourous thing at times I think, but be wary.  I find myself worried that I am too cynical at times, and I don't think I'm all that cynical especially using my sister as a comparison.  I think as a Christian, it's important to keep a perspective that is accepting and doesn't just dismiss people or things too lightly.  Yet you know, cynicism can also be a great witty way to turn bad things into something you can laugh at.  I guess balance, as always, is important.  None-the-less, I hope you do reach the ripe old age to be cynical about young folk like us some day. :)
